Amazon is closing six Whole Foods Markets in four states to improve its brick-and-mortar strategy. The move
comes two months after the firm closed dozens of bookstores and gift shops nationwide to focus on food retail.
Montgomery, Mobile, Tarzana, Brookline, Mass., and Englewood and DePaul, Chicago, will lose Whole Foods stores.
"As we continue to position Whole Foods Market for long-term success, we regularly evaluate the performance and growth potential of each of
our stores, and we have made the difficult decision to close six stores," a Whole Foods spokeswoman said. "We are supporting impacted team
members through this transition and expect that all interested, eligible team members will find positions at our other locations."
Some Whole Foods Market sites may close, although the corporation just opened Amazon Grocery outlets in more profitable places.
Six debuted this year, including two in San Francisco, one in Washington D.C., one in Chicago, and one in Towson.
